Today a group of seven cadets from 2527 (Lawnswood) Squadron were lucky enough to attend the Air Operations Acquaintance Centre (AOAC) based at RAF Linton-on-Ouse for their 100th course!

The day involved some introduction briefings and instruction on the controls of the F‑16 aircraft, followed by some initial training on the F‑16 simulators. Before lunch the morning was finished off with an introduction to planning air operations and strategy.

The afternoon involved the cadets planning a combat operation using both air and sea assets. They then engaged in combat simulation back in the F‑16s where performance was monitored and scores obtained. Finally any cadet who wanted to was given the opportunity for some flying in the virtual reality simulator. The VR takes a little getting used to but it soon becomes a truly immersive experience and tremendous fun.

All of the cadets thoroughly enjoyed their day and would recommend it to anyone, it is a unique experience you won’t find anywhere else in the organisation and if you are offered the opportunity you should definitely take it.
